No, not at this time. Once our study is completed, we will be able to provide educators with access to the curriculum.

How is the curriculum organized?

The curriculum consists of 6 units with 2-3 lessons that can be implemented completely online as self -paced activities. Lesson content focuses on exploring student’s perceptions of themselves in various roles: Person, Learner, Worker, and Friend.

Teachers are provided with pre-written lesson plans to support implementation. We estimate a total of 8-10 hours to complete the curriculum which can be done over 6-8 weeks. Instructional materials and lesson plans were developed by licensed Massachusetts educators and are aligned with grades 3-5 ELA, ASCA (American School Counselors Association), and ISTE (International Society of Technology Educators) standards.

We want to determine how effective the curriculum is at supporting student growth in the areas of self-concept, social and emotional competence, and early college and career awareness. We also want to make sure the tools we have created for teachers meet their instructional needs.

- Teachers will implement the online curriculum over a 6-8 week period (6-10 hours total).
- Students will participate in short surveys before and after completing the curriculum.
- Teachers will share feedback on digital resources and activities.
- All activities will occur remotely.

This study is funded by the US Department of Education. The project is being implemented by the staff from Think College at the Institute for Community Inclusion at University of Massachusetts Boston and EDC.

Not at first. We will be seeking two groups of teachers/classrooms per grade level. One group will implement the curriculum and one group will not. But both groups will implement the surveys. After we gather data, the second group will have access to the curriculum.

When would it start?

We are currently looking for teachers and classrooms to implement the curriculum in the Fall of 2022 and/or Spring of 2023*. The start date can occur at your convenience and once all consent forms have been collected, and participating educators have been trained on using the curriculum.

*Please note: in order to participate in a Spring 2023 pilot, we would need to register your school by February 15, 2023.

Step 1: The first step would be for you to fill out the interest form. Then, our team will follow up to ensure that your principal is supportive of your participation and to make sure that your school meets our guidelines as required by the Office of Special Education Programs.

Step 2: We’d ask you to attend a short online meeting to learn more about the study. In this meeting we would describe the following study activities:

- Sharing research consent forms with families
- Facilitating 15-minute pre & post survey to students
- Providing feedback on lesson content and training materials

- PDPs for training participation
- Earbuds for students
- An Amazon gift card
- Four (4) autographed picture books by New York Times best-selling author, Peter H. Reynolds for the first 20 schools who register and upon completion of the research study.
